The Key To Great Abs with Tony Lyons
Tony Lyons, Soho Gyms Director of Fitness explains
Worry more about improving your diet than increasing your ab workouts.
You don’t have to train your abs every day to have a great stomach. Reducing your body fat percentage is the key to seeing great abs or a nice flat stomach.
Ask one of our instructors to check your body fat percentage, record the result and take the test again after a month and you can see if your fat has reduced. As the percentage reduces, the abs just appear. Tracking progress keeps you motivated because you see improvement in the measures not just the mirror. You don’t have to do 50 reps per exercise to get a six pack.
They should be trained like any other muscle group. Also remember your core is used throughout any workout, shoulder, back etc. – all of which is a bonus. For men some abs are shaped better than others, not all men have symmetrical six packs because that’s just not how their muscles are formed.
For women – that flat smooth core you want believe me all these principles still apply.Make sure you mix your exercise routine to cover all your core area, intercostals, abdomen and obliques.
Get there quicker
Speak to one of our Fitness Instructors or Personal Trainers who’ll be on the gym floor – they can help with a specific “fat loss” training plan to help you reach your body fat percentage goal quicker. You can also hop into our quick 15min “AbsXpress” class before or after your workout. Finally Remember that so much of it is about eating clean - so don’t forget the diet plan.
