Soho Gyms is the trading name of Ovalhouse Ltd, a company owned by the Directors. The controlling shareholders are our Chairman, Jeremy Norman and his partner, Derek Frost. Michael Crockett is our Managing Director. The other large shareholder (and Director) is, Richard Taylor. The group has expanded to five clubs all in central London. There are further plans for organic expansion over the coming years. Our aim is to remain focused on our members and to provide them with a unique sense of belonging without the cold corporate feel found in so many other clubs.
At the moment we have five central London sites.
We have gyms in Covent Garden, Earls Court, Clapham Common, Camden Town and Waterloo. For more details of locations, click here.
Yes! We offer daily and weekly memberships, as well as pay as you go classes.
All the sites of Soho Gyms are full members of the Fitness Industry Association and meet and exceed all their minimum standards of operations.
All of our staff are duly qualified at level 2 or above on the Register for Exercise Professionals. The status of their registration and qualification can be searched for online at www.exerciseregister.org.
The peak Freedom Tag Plus membership allows you full, unlimited use of all of our sites. The peak Freedom Tag membership allows full use of all of the gyms at any time, except Waterloo which can only be used during off peak hours. For a full list of membership options and restrictions, click here.
Peak times are from 5.00pm to 10.00pm. Off-Peak are from 6.30am to 5.00pm (which means you need to be out of the gym floor by 5pm). Unlike most other operators, our peak hours do not include early morning and lunchtimes, which means you get to work out for less at times when other gyms charge you extra for the privilege. For a complete list of membership options click here.
Of course! We welcome all exercisers in our gyms and will make sure that your first encounter with exercise is a productive and long lasting one.
Dumbbells go up to 50kg in weight, depending on the site.
We play a selection of funky house tunes, along the lines of Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound compilations. The volume and the mood of the music changes during the day to accommodate the mood, however it is consistent across all of our sites. The volume is loud enough to encourage your workout, but not so loud that it stops you from having a conversation or listening to your own iPod.
Casual wear is good, but no jeans are allowed and trainers are essential. Have a look at our gym rules for more details or if in doubt just give us a call!
Our minimum age for membership is 18.
Everybody is welcome as long as they are fun and committed to improving their health and fitness.
Try Body Pump, Spinning or Soho Circuit. These classes require little or no coordination and allow you to work at your own pace. Make sure you have a word with the instructor before class so that they can give you more options to suit your pace and fitness levels.
No! Guys are allowed and encouraged to join in! For those looking for an extreme athletic workout, Body Attack should do the trick. Although there are certain aerobic moves, most of the class consist on athletic
and plyometric moves to challenge the fittest athletes amongst you. Spinning and circuit also require no coordination, and Body Pump will add an endurance element to your strength programme. Dynamic Yoga Flow will challenge your strength and give you long muscles to improve your definition. Don't give the ladies the edge, come into the studio and take it like a man!
Wear comfortable sports clothing, with supportive trainers if taking any of the fitness classes. For Yoga wear comfortable clothing, and remember yoga is done barefoot. If you feel uncomfortable about that, you can wear socks to class. Just let the instructor know.
We do not operate a booking system. For classes that are very busy, we release tickets 15 minutes before the class.
Sure! We pride ourselves in flexibility. Classes are £8 at Waterloo, £7
at any other gym.
